Nacho Vigalondo’s indie-rom-kaiju-com meets its musical match in composer Bear McCreary, a TV regular with alt-monster-movie previous ( 10 Cloverfield Lane). McCreary splices guitar rock, John Carpenter-ish suspense, dreamy strings and outsized sonic swells. And if momentum proves hard to sustain, there’s compensating mystique and muscle in, respectively, ‘Birth Of The Monster’ and ‘Separate Ways’.
