With their 1984 di­rec­to­rial de­but, the Coen broth­ers showed the sure­foot­ed­ness with which they would ease them­selves into one genre af­ter an­other, re­work­ing each to fit their dead­pan vi­sion. Blood Sim­ple (re-re­leased in Coe­nap­proved 4K) gave devo­tees of ruth­less black com­edy cause to cheer, and of­fered M. Em­met Walsh, as its ul­tra-sleazy PI, the role of a life­time.
