This is where it all started – the first spaghetti western to make it big at the international box office, the film that lifted Clint Eastwood from bit player in TV westerns to worldwide stardom. OK, the plot’s a blatant rip-off of Kurosawa’s Yojimbo and production values are decidedly shaky, but 50-odd years on, the raw energy, and Clint’s nonchalant cool, still compel the eye.
