Acentury of film scoring is a wide sweep for a documentary to cover. Matt Schrader’s otherwise ambitious, engaging primer inevitably skips key notes and names, though its manifold guests (Hans Zimmer, David Arnold, Danny Elfman) provide bright insights and tantalising snippets of music’s mad profs at work. If notably absent modern pioneers (Jonny Greenwood, Joe Hisaishi) suggest a serialised approach might have worked better, disc extras part-compensate with James Cameron’s heartfelt tribute to the late James Horner.
