nostalgia may have blinded some to the faults of the 1993 original, but this mediocre remake casts a more forgiving light on its blemishes. None of those problems – poor pacing, archaic combat – have been fixed, and its best features are now worse. The polygonal art style looks cheap, the menu system is more fiddly than ever, and the soundtrack is laughably inferior. As likely to upset die-hards as to confuse newcomers, Secret Of Mana’s few highlights are those it shares with its 16-bit forerunner. CS
