Most recently we had Lady Bird, set in Greta Gerwig’s hometown Sacramento. The writer/director has said the story has a “core of truth” but not based on literal events; ie, she never chucked herself out of a moving car. Similarly, Boyhood is set in Richard Linklater’s native Houston, though we must assume young Linklater didn’t take a mere three hours to age from six to 18.
