STAR LETTER

-

Having enjoyed Annihilation, a film that would’ve worked wonderfully in the cinema, I fear that production companies will turn to streaming services to release a movie when not confident it’ll perform at the box office. This may not always affect the quality of a film, but I would challenge anyone to watch Gravity or Avatar on a standard TV and say it’s as good as the big screen. Could it be that in 10 years we’ll only be able to see the latest tentpole in the cinema, with all others consigned to our living rooms? I implore readers to watch films as they should be seen, on a huge screen with surround sound and someone crunching or slurping in the next row.

TOM ELLIS, VIA EMAIL

We addressed this very topic in our Annihilation feature (see TF270); where do other readers stand? Does the convenience of streaming outweigh the scope of the big screen? Should the crunchers/ slurpers/WhatsApp-ers/breaking-up couples have their own section of the auditorium, like smokers used to? Tom and everyone with a letter printed here will receive a copy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, available on digital download, 4K Ultra HD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on 9 April, via Disney. Didn’t send an address? Email it! Or send a loveable droid with a holo-map of your location.
