We hear you’re a fan of the book…

I came across the book at the recommendation of my librarian.

I was immediately taken in by Deborah Ellis’ writing, and the fact that it was so relatable. I actually read the whole trilogy in about a week, [it’s] my all-time-favourite book. So I went to the auditions, and from there, magic happened.

How did you find Parvana’s voice?

Sometimes I felt like she was my best friend, or she was my sister. Sometimes I even felt like I was her. But there was always more to find out so, with Nora, we started from the bottom. I saw rough drawings, so we had the opportunity to add different layers to this character, and build her personality and who she

was. That was really special.

Did you meet Angelina Jolie?

Yeah. On the last day of rehearsals Nora showed me a video of Angelina saying “Hi!” It was a great form of encouragement. Then we met her at the premiere and got to know her. She’s wonderful. She’s so down to earth. She’s so loving and warm. She’s very selfless. So yeah, we’re really happy that she’s on board. JF
