What does that sting in the tale mean for Avengers 4?

...that Ant-Man And The Wasp coda?

Before we get started, a warning: if you haven’t seen Ant-Man And The Wasp yet and want to keep its surprises intact, avert your eyes until it’s finally released in UK cinemas on 2 August. We’re serious. Turn the page, look away now, don’t blame us if you carry on reading. Giant-Man-sized spoilers coming in five, four, three, two…

Set in the aftermath of Civil War’s airport barney, a matter of weeks before the events of Infinity War, Ant-Man And The Wasp is a standalone affair that dodges the need to address the snap heard around the universe, and Ant-Man’s questionable absence from the preceding punch-up in Wakanda. Until the film’s first post-credits sequence, where it all gets a bit dusty…

Having rescued Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) from the Quantum Realm, Scott (Paul Rudd), Hope (Evangeline Lilly), Hank (Michael Douglas) and the OG Wasp are using a portable Quantum Tunnel to retrieve more gobbledegook juice from the micro-universe. But while Scott’s inside the Quantum Realm awaiting extraction, his comms cut out and the three earthbound heroes disappear with a familiar haunting silence; Hope, Hank and Janet the latest victims of Thanos’ universal cull.

But more shocking than the fact that three (more) major figures in the MCU have been dusted is the fact that Scott is now trapped in the Quantum Realm, with noone on hand to bring him back. Or is there? Ghost and Bill Foster have a working understanding of quantum tech; they could prove Ant-Man’s salvation. Alternatively, if Scott still has the ability to override his suit’s regulator, he could embiggen himself and escape in the exact same way he did the first time.

There’s also Hope’s tantalising line about steering clear of dangerous vortexes to consider. It could be a simple shorthand for conveying the Realm’s continued danger, or it could be our biggest clue yet as to how the Avengers will reverse the snap. We already know, thanks to Hank Pym, that “all concepts of time and space become irrelevant” in the Quantum Realm. Could these vortexes be used to manipulate time, or even allow for time travel?

For now, Scott is stuck in the Quantum Realm. It’s a safe bet he won’t stay there for long.

‘is it a big clue as to how the avengers reverse the snap?’
