“It’s so fantastic to see Chris Pratt as Emmet, back in a completely new adventure that’s going even further than the first one,” enthuses The Lego Movie 2 director Mike Mitchell. Talking of going further than ever before, Mitchell tells TF that the sequel will head out into space, specifically the ‘Sistar System’, when minifigure Wyldstyle (Banks) is stolen by the younger sister of the boy who was playing with the toys in the first film’s frame story – the same younger sister whose Duplo toys invaded Bricksburg in the last instalment’s final gag.
“That’s exactly where this film picks up, where the Duplo are destroying Bricksburg,” explains Mitchell. “After a brief opening, we move forward four years. So now we get to see where those Lego are four years later, and what’s happened.” Familiar faces like Batman and Unikitty will return, and there will also be new arrivals such as parodic action hero Rex Dangervest (Pratt, taking on another voice role) and the alien inhabitants of the aforementioned Sistar System. “The Sistar System is the sister’s bedroom,” explains Mitchell. “And upstairs, she’s got a whole galaxy. Not just planets, but a completely different world that works on its own rules. And it’s really crazy.” Sounds awesome to us. MM the Lego Movie 2 openS on 8 February.
