Millicent Simmonds talks taking the lead…

When we last saw Regan her father had died in front of her. Where do we find her now, emotionally?

I think she was very devastated to lose her father, but she felt like she wanted to become him, so to speak – and become the patriarch, and replace him, in a sense. Because Regan shares so many things with her father, and she is very resourceful, she knew the technology that her dad had. And it’s been terrible for her. But yeah, she’s taken that road.

You and Noah have maintained your off-screen friendship. Is that important in playing siblings?

Oh, absolutely. In the first movie, Noah learned more sign language that he needed to in the movie, just to be able to communicate with me, and we immediately clicked. Before we started filming the first movie, we emailed each other and wanted to get to know each other a little bit. And from there, we’ve just become so close. We text each other every day. We visit each other when we can, and as often as we can. And now that we’re here filming this second movie, it’s just perfect. We get to experience that all over again and grow together. And it’s been a really wonderful experience.

What are you excited for audiences to see in this film?

I’m really excited for the audience to see what’s happening in the world – not just on the farm, but expanding to what other people are experiencing, and how they’re working through this, and really what’s out there. Are these creatures everywhere? Are they not? Who knows? I’m a fan of the dark and the creepy. So I think I’m really excited for them to experience that, because I think there’s going to be a little bit more of that in this one.

Could you see this world opening further to a third film?

I think that there could be. I know that Emily has mentioned to John before that it almost feels like a book series. So it’s really interesting to see each story and the experiences that take place. I have no idea what a third one would even look like, but I think it would be really fun, because I can imagine there’d be more stunts!
