MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT 2018

Benji gets in on the action in the most ballistic mission yet… “It’s been a real treat to evolve Benji from being this lab technician to being a new boy in the field to being a little bit more experienced and then really getting in amongst it in Fallout. And it will be fun to play him in the aftermath of Fallout in the next one – to see how his experiences, which were pretty horrific, actually affect him. We’re primed and ready to go on the next one. We’re on standby for when it’s safe and the call comes, then we’ll hit it.

“Tom [Cruise] obviously does all his own stunts but he doesn’t insist others do. He actually gets a little bit clucky around us! He really worries about everyone. I remember he came in once and was watching me shoot this fight scene. The stuntman threw me against the wall, and Tom came over and was like, ‘Are you OK?’ I was like, ‘You just hung off a plane, for fuck’s sake!’ But that’s become the films’ signature: the authenticity of the action. Tom really got that on Ghost Protocol. We were all sitting in the audience watching it in Australia, and the sense of vertigo that the crowd felt when he went out the window [of the Burj Khalifa] – it was palpable. It was like a lightbulb going off: ‘This is it. This is what we do. We do it for real and it gives the audience something special.’

“It’s weird. Being friends with people like Tom and Steven Spielberg is kind of my life now, so it’s normal in so much as it’s normal. But I try and maintain that degree of appreciation of it. I never lose sight of just how cool it is. I love chatting to Tom about his career. He’s got great stories about all of the films that he’s done.”
