EXPECTATION Terrence Malick’s first film in 20 years! OMG A war movie unlike any other, as Terry tickled James Jones’ autobiographical novel, focusing on an American platoon’s conflict with the Japanese at the Guadalcanal, into a dreamy meditation on man’s place in the world, the universe. Here the snippets of voiceover, the mosaic of flora and fauna, and the philosophical, religious and literary allusions were still fresh and oh-so-potent.
