HOW TO BUILD A GIRL TBC
FILM OUT 26 JUNE AMAZON PRIME
Caitlin Moran’s semi-autobiography about Wolverhampton teen Johanna making it as a music journalist by creating a poison-pen persona was a romp to read. Director Coky Giedroyc captures that verve on-screen without going beyond familiar coming-of-age motifs. Much of its pep is thanks to Beanie Feldstein, walking a fine line between relatable adolescent naif and insufferable brat. Moran’s comedy touchstones spliced with a heightened tone produce a fizzy, funny – if dispensable – salute to the ambitions of youth. Jane Crowther
