Spooked, cerebral, celestial… Working with Bristol composers The Insects, Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow (Portishead) bring multi-layered flavours to Alex Garland’s futuredevotional mind-bender. Sombre synths, creepy clangs, hymnal chorales and uneasy throbs (‘Suffocation’) dominate, moodily. In between, emotion is a crucial ingredient: ‘Resurrection’ and ‘Amaya’s Theme’ haunt like ghosts in the machine.
