HOUSE OF DARKNESS
Neil LaBute’s #MeToo horror film is something of a dark modern-day fairy tale and takes place in a castle in the woods, the home of the mysterious Mina (Kate Bosworth), who was picked up in a bar by Hap (Justin Long). Or did she pick him up? Their flirty, halting dialogue becomes increasingly loaded, so sharptongued it seems inevitable there will be blood. A stagey, minimalist drama packing a medium-sized punch, this is LaBute’s In The Company Of Men crossed with the baroque world of arthouse Eurosleaze merchant Jean Rollin. Intriguing.
