Rockschool: The Beatles – Let It Be
Four chords and some easy melodies are all you need to play Rockschool’s Grade One arrangement of this classic Beatles tune
l
et it be is a classic Lennon/ McCartney number from the Beatles’ 1970 album of the same name. Rockschool’s arrangement starts with some intro chords which lead into the melody during the verse. The chords are a classic‘four-chord trick’ built on the first, fourth, fifth and sixth notes of the C major scale (CD E F G A B). The chords are C, F, Gand Am, so you can see how chords and scale relate to each other.
Make sure your chords ring out cleanly and your fingertips are planted firmly behind the appropriate frets. F is played with a barre – you’ll be pressing down on two strings with one finger so take time to find the best hand position. If you take Rockschool’s exam you must follow the tab exactly as printed, but the melody is ripe for embellishments in your own time. A couple of bluesy bends, slides, pull-offs or hammer-ons will put your own stamp on proceedings.
