Many sonic elements of the 60s endured into the 70s, but you’re free to add more gain to beef up riffs and make fluid soloing easier. Despite totally different sounds, Les Pauls and Stratocast­ers arguably ruled the blues-rock roost. Generally, use a single coil-equipped guitar for cleaner, funky or country-rock tones, or humbuckers for a fatter more distorted sound. Many bucked these trends though, so do experiment with your gear. Echoes, phasers, flangers and chorus pedals became more widely available as the decade wore on.
