U2’s first foray with producers Brian Eno and Lanois saw much more exploration of soundscapes beyond the Edge’s iconic driving rhythmic delay hooks fuelling Pride (In
The Name Of Love) and the hypnotic build of Bad. The title track sees him switching to keyboard as he fully dedicates to the songs’ big pictures. “Unforgettable Fire was an experiment in staying clear of the guitar for the most part,” Edge admitted to Guitar Player in 1985. “I did an awful lot more keyboards and general atmospheric work on the guitar rather than taking it to the forefront. Nevertheless guitar drives the frantic delay of Wire, using damped strings, echo and bottleneck in the intro to create fresh sounds. Download: Pride (In The Name Of Love)
