When a band is in a good place, you can often hear it in their music, and after a rough patch that saw guitarist Jim Root jump ship, it sounds like Stone Sour are having fun again. The song titles are served with a smile ( Knievel Has Landed, Whiplash Pants) but the band are still serious about fusing their classic metal and heavy rock influences into their sound. Taipei Person/Allah Tea has guitarists Josh Rand and Root’s replacement Christian Martucci nodding to the Hetfield rhythm academy, and amongst the fast and furious, Song#3 is one of their most unashamed melodic rock moments.
