The Game

(1980)

-

As the 80s dawned, Queen were riding the crest of a wave and the quartet leapt headlong into the new decade with an incredibly diverse collection of songs. Play The Game begins with an electronic swirl courtesy of a synthesiser, a hitherto unused tool for the band, before blossoming into the perfect single, comprising a beautiful vocal, ear-worm melodies, and a wondrously fat guitar tone. Sail Away Sweet Sister contains both acoustic and electric guitar solos, while other highlights include the lovely Save Me, Crazy Little

Thing Called Love, for which Brian May wrangles a 1967 Fender Esquire, and the jaunty Don’t Try Suicide, embellished with ringing Andy Summers-style chords. However, it was the single Another One Bites The Dust, penned by bassist John Deacon, that propelled the album to the top of the US charts and a die was cast. Download: Play The Game
