RECORDING

-

I’ve always been a bit underwhelmed with the drive sounds various plugins have offered me for recording. So I’m eager to hear what results I get here alongside my first experience with Line 6’s editing software. Connecting to my Macbook with Logic is simple enough as the software immediately asks if I want to use it as an input and output. From there I have the choice to edit sounds on the unit or with Line 6’s free Helix Edit application. The latter makes more sense in a recording workspace (in this case, my kitchen!). Headphones are no substitute for studio monitors but I’m pleased at how fast it is to connect and edit sounds. Recording encourages more experimentation from me as I jam along to song tracks, trying different tones – and the best thing is there’s so much choice that I’m only limited by my own preconceptions.

My first month with the hx stomp feels like it’ s barely scratched the s ur face –i haven’t even got into subjects like snapshots( three possible variations of the same pre set you can call up-mid-song), midi integration, downloadable impulse responses, downloadable patches… there’ salo ton offer. with the admission prices to the worlds of Fractal and kemp er leaving a lot of hobby players out, this more accessible member of the helix family feels like a game-changer at the lowest street prices of £409 we’ ve seen lately. one that could sway the curious towards modelling–it’ s not a zero sum game either here as you can use your existing gear too.
