Bringing out menace in Ennis

- CHRISTIAN NICOLUSSI

THERE is something about South Sydney that brings out Mick Ennis’ niggling best.

Ennis is known to upset rivals with his cheek and annoying tactics, but it’s his number of run- ins with some of Souths’ stars that stand out, including a few dust- ups with Adam Reynolds and John Sutton.

There was also his stink with former halfback Chris Sandow – the footage has become popular on YouTube – and last year’s incident when he was kicked in the head by Issac Luke, which led to Luke having to front the judiciary.

While former Bulldog Ennis missed out on the chance to play the Bunnies in last year’s grand final because of injury, he’ll be front and centre tonight when he wears the Cronulla No. 9 jumper.

Ennis said he always enjoyed testing himself against the big Bunnies forward pack. He also had a huge respect for his opposite number Luke.

“There’s been a huge respect there every time we’ve played against each other,’’ Ennis said of Luke.

“I admire the way he plays his footy. He’s one of the top dummy- halfs in the game. He’s worked extremely hard from the early days where he was in a rotation ( system), and turned himself into an elite 80minute player.

While Ennis will be hard to contain out of dummy- half, it’s a shame the Sharks will miss the services of in- form prop Andrew Fifita because of suspension – who Ennis described as “a huge loss”.
