Dissident’s winning run inspires delight in Moody

- ROD NICHOLSON

PETER Moody rarely – apart from world superstar Black Caviar – dashes to escort a horse back to the winners circle. He did so at Randwick on Saturday after Dissident won the Group 1 All Aged Stakes.

It said much about how much the win, and the horse, means to the Caulfield trainer.

“It was one of the most gratifying moments of my career,” an emotional Moody explained. “You have to pinch yourself. It was just a special moment,” he said.

Moody explained that the victory was important for a variety of reason and the race was potentially an all- -ornothing venture.

“This horse has been under- recognised all his career. I bought this horse on spec and to see him achieve what he has was a thrill. We have had to overcome a lot with him – a bleeding attack and all sorts of things – and we knew this would be his last race before going to stud. We even had to wait for the Sydney weather to clear up.

“So for him to win his fourth Group 1 of the season and go out like Typhoon Tracy and Back Caviar as a Group 1 winner is something special. They were given the accolade as Australian Horse of the Year and I honestly believe he is worthy of that accolade – he has won twice as many Group 1 races this season as any other galloper in the land.

“He beat eight Group 1 winners in the All Aged Stakes and he beat them fair and square. He is a star who all too late may finally get the credit he deserves as the best 1400m weight- forage galloper in the land.”

The four- year- old stallion, who took his record to seven wins and eight placings from 21 starts and more than $ 2 million in prizemoney, heads to Newgate Stud after accounting for potential Horse of the Year candidates Chautauqua, Terravista, Shooting To Win and Wandjina.
