BLACKHAWKS SCORE BIG BUT COACH WANTS MORE

BEST IS YET TO COME

THE Townsville Blackhawks’ powerful start to their maiden Intrust Super Cup season has continued with a 40- 10 drubbing of the Redcliffe Dolphins yesterday afternoon.

The Blackhawks have now won five games straight and sit on top of the ladder with a twopoint advantage over next week’s opponents Easts Tigers.

The 30- point win means Townsville has now scored 270 points in their seven matches so far, 84 points more than the next best offensive team, and their for- and- against is the best by nearly 60.

But coach Kristian Woolf is still looking for some polish, with his side’s poor ball control having given the Dolphins chances to score.

“It was certainly against a better opposition and we did some really good things, particularly in the first half, and we defended really strongly for the majority of the game,” Woolf said.

“We still need to be a little bit better with the footy and we certainly need to be a little bit more disciplined with the footy. At times we gave them opportunities to try and even the game up, but the positive was we were able to back that up defensively.”

Woolf said it would be important to improve that ahead of the home clash against the Tigers, who downed the Central Queensland Capras 56- 6 on Saturday.

“If we give Easts as much footy as we gave Redcliffe today then we are certainly going to put ourselves under some pressure,” he said.

“I’d like to think we have the same defensive attitude but we improve a bit with the footy.”

Offensively, Jonothan Reuben and Zac Santo both got doubles while five other players found their way across the line.

However, Woolf said his side would look at their goal- kicking, converting just two of their nine tries.

“It was a bit ordinary, a lot of our tries were scored out wide but we’ll need to be a bit better,” he said.
