V8s ace stays course for adventurethon

- MORGAN OSS

V8 SUPERCARS driver David Reynolds proved his off- the- racetrack talents yesterday when he triumphed to win a mini “adventurethon” at Pallarenda.

Reynolds braved the windy conditions and took on local athletes including Townsville Fire’s Jacqui Zelenka, Townsville Crocodiles player Mitch Norton and Dancenorth’s Andrew Searle in the novelty event. Reynolds said he had enjoyed the test but admitted the course had been tough. The three- part circuit, designed by Joel Savage from Adventurethon Townsville, included a 200m paddle, a 5km bike ride and a 2km run.

Savage said the course was only half the regular adventurethon junior circuit.

“But the paddle conditions were pretty rough and those who struggled out there struggled for good reason,” Savage said.

“But ( we were) excited to have David here competing against other professional athletes for a bit of fun.” Reynolds is a seasoned triathlete, with running and cycling making up a large part of his training.

“This morning has been a bit of fun and a great opportunity to meet some of the local professional athletes and see part of Townsville I haven’t seen before,” he said.

“The weather here is much more conducive to exercising outdoors and I can’t wait to get back for the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 next month.” The Townsville 400 will be held from July 10- 12.
