No rest, just keep playing

-

PAUL Green, as coach of the Cowboy’s rugby league team, I am one of your greatest fans but I cannot agree with your policy of resting players for a fixture.

I realise we now live in a copycat society and it is a trend now for coaches to rest players, but surely we don’t have to follow blindly down that track.

There should be one only policy and that is to pick your 17 best players. If there is an injury, that player will be replaced. That is the end of the story and if there is a player requiring a rest because he is weary, he should seriously be considering another sport.

In defence of rugby league players, I would say it would be very rare for a player to forfeit his place in a team. They choose to play rugby league, they know what to expect, and they have that competitive spirit to carry minor injuries to its extreme, just to make sure they are chosen.

FRED WOODHEAD,

North Ward.
