Lights on for rugby big guns

- ROHAN O’NEIL

FRIDAY night football has returned to the Townsville and District Rugby Union ( TDRU) with four of the six first grade teams in action tonight.

Round 13 of the Dudley Jones Cup will kick off at 8.10pm today when second placed Brothers take on an inform North Ward at the Hugh Street rugby grounds.

Both teams are coming off big wins in their most recent outings and North Ward will be keen to test themselves against one of the competition’s best after beating Ross River by 15 points last round.

In tonight’s other game Teachers West will put their undefeated season on the line when they take on a Ross River team desperate to return to top form.

Teachers will kick off against the Redskins at 8.10pm tonight, with their home fans at Warrina Park hoping they can make it 14 consecutive wins.

The round wraps up tomorrow with Western Suburbs set to don special pink jerseys to raise money for breast cancer in their clash with Burdekin at Riverway Oval.

Burdekin were disappointing last round against Brothers and will be out to silence a big Western Suburbs crowd at their Pink Lady fundraising day.
