SHOW KICKS OFF TODAY
DAGWOOD dogs, fairy floss and carnival rides will be among Townsville’s biggest attractions this weekend.
Townsville Show kicks off today, after a busy week of preparation by Townsville Show Society volunteers.
Gates open at 5pm for a night of fun, including the Demolition Derby, the Globe of Death stunt motorcycle riders, goat races, monster trucks, fireworks and rides.
Classic attractions such as woodchopping, horse events and kart racing will add to the excitement, while local talent will also be on display in the pavilions. A new highlight will be the Miss Townsville competition tomorrow, where young women will step out in an attempt to claim the crown.
Miss Townsville will win $ 10,000, while the second and third places will be award $ 3000 and $ 2000 respectively.
Children will also be well entertained with an animal nursery, a circus, pig racing and camel rides.
The show will run through until Monday, when many businesses will close their doors for the show holiday.
Tickets are available at the gate for $ 15 for adults, $ 5 for children, $ 10 concession or $ 35 for families.
