Hospital opens kids’ cancer unit

TOWNSVILLE Hospital will today officially open the first paediatric oncology unit outside Brisbane as part of the health facility’s $ 67.5 million cancer centre expansion. Hospital staff got a sneak peek at the unit in March, which will act as a satellite service to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane, where most of the state’s paediatric oncology care is delivered. Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley MP ( pictured) will officially open the entire hospital’s redevelopment today, which includes the Townsville Cancer Centre, Pathology Queensland, South Block and Townsville Sub- Acute Care Unit.
