Crocs’ Blitz boost
T OWNSVIL L E C r o c o d i l e s chairman Andrew Gisinger is confident hosting the National Basketball League’s pre- season blitz will be another step in the revitalisation process for the rebuilding club.
The Crocs and NBL yesterday announced the eight- team round robin pre- season tournament will be heading to Townsville between September 24 and 27 in another boost for the club since coming out of voluntary administration in May.
The tournament will see 12 basketball games played in the city between Townsville RSL Stadium and the Townsville Entertainment Centre over the four days, and the Crocs hope to bring in the crowds by trying to connect with the entire North Queensland region.
Aside from the on- court entertainment, the club is planning to use the profile of all the players by running a “super camp” for juniors – given the tournament is in school holidays – as well as making charity appearances and holding community events.
Gisinger hoped that would help boost the Crocs’ season membership and regular crowd numbers, given the club is again rebuilding after two years of struggle.
