Half- century by Kann lifts Blackstars

-

BLACKSTARS point guard Chris Kann has exploded for 54 points in his team’s high- octane 114- 83 win over Hyats in championship division basketball this week.

A development player with the Townsville Crocodiles, Kann connected on eight threes on his way to his staggering points total, with his teammate Alexander Foster backing him up with 28 points.

Hyats were led by Matthew Wilson’ 34 points but it wasn't nearly enough to stop Kann guiding his squad to second spot on the ladder.

Bouncers were also winners this week with their 71- 64 victory over Serpents helping to keep them in the top three.

Young gun Jarrad Figg paced Bouncers with 35 points while Zion Laterre had 27 points for Serpents in their seven points loss.

In the other men’s game competition leaders Whirlwinds were given an almighty push by bottom placed Cannons but hung on to win 70- 64 behind 19 point games from Ethan Betts and Charlton Offermans.

In the women’s championship division Hyats strengthened their hold on second spot with a narrow 60- 58 win over Hyats.

Hyats guards Simone Page ( 20 points) and Rachael McCully ( 19 points) were both impressive.

Meanwhile Cannons were pushed by Town High Tropics but hung on for a 59- 54 victory.
