Grass fires set traffic hazard

GRASS fires in Oonoonba blanketed parts of Townsville in smoke yesterday afternoon.

Three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews fought the blaze on Abbott St, bringing it under control after several hours.

The smoke caused a traffic hazard, forcing police to direct vehicles away from the area.

It is unknown how the fires started.
