People of Bowen win Superboats race weekend

- EVE REITMAJER

THE racing was spectacular, the atmosphere was electric but the people of Bowen were the true champions, according to teams and organisers at this year’s Heli Taxi Bowen Offshore Superboats round.

While the choppy conditions made for some tough racing, Bowen could not have been more inviting, putting on a meet and greet for teams and sponsors on Friday night and a street festival on Saturday.

The Front Beach, the Bowen jetty, the North Queensland Cruising Yacht Club and Dalrymple Point proved to be excellent vantage points to see the action, and all areas were packed over the weekend.

Addressing a crowd at the yacht club on Sunday afternoon for the presentations, Offshore Superboats president Graham Fraser offered special thanks to the town of Bowen.

“We look forward to coming back for many years,” he said. “To the people of Bowen, without you coming out and supporting us, it would be nothing.”
