UBER OFFERS TOWNSVILLE SWEETENER
UBER wants to launch in centres such as Townsville, but says it needs government co- operation.
The private taxi company will roll out in Townsville for one day on Friday, delivering ice cream in an attempt to woo support.
Uber is only available in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and expansion plans have met with opposition from taxi companies and governments nationwide.
State general manager Mike Abbott called on residents to lobby their political representatives.
“We have no current plans to launch Uber in Townsville but we believe we have a huge amount to offer,” he said.
“If readers would like to see Uber in Townsville, they should certainly let their local state MP know.”
Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper yesterday stood by the State Government’s position against the company.
Ice cream will be delivered in vehicles and on foot from 11am to 5pm.
App users need the code ICECREAMOZ to
order their ice cream.
