Try hand at some bush nav­i­ga­tion

GRAB a com­pass and walk­ing shoes and join TTOC for the Min­gela North­ern Clas­sic Cross coun­try for the best ori­en­teer­ing map in North­ern Queens­land. It’s time to step out of your ur­ban com­fort zone and have a go at nav­i­gat­ing in the bush. Just out­side Townsville at the base of Min­gela Range on the left- hand side there will be a gate marked Mai­davale Prop­erty; re­mem­ber, once go­ing through, shut the gate and fol­low the signs. Start times are be­tween 9- 11am with course clo­sure at noon. There will be hard, mod­er­ate and easy cour­ses, and a very easy course for ju­niors, so there is some­thing for ev­ery­one. Wear long pants or gaiters and don’t for­get hat, sun­screen and wa­ter. Com­passes, whis­tles, maps, wa­ter and soft­ies at start/ fin­ish will be avail­able. some train­ing in for the up­com­ing run­ning fes­ti­val in Au­gust and join the Townsville Road­run­ners for the Fair­field Wa­ters hand­i­cap. Start­ing from Bi­cen­ten­nial Park on Queens Rd, Satur­day, the event kicks off at 6.15am. This event is based on pre­vi­ous race times and run­ners will be started ac­cord­ing to their time al­lo­cated. There is a long 9.2km course and a shorter 3.9km to cater for all fit­ness lev­els. the beau­ti­ful Ross River this Satur­day with River- Sea Kayak. There is a morn­ing ses­sion at 7.30am and a 4.30 af­ter­noon ses­sion, meet­ing un­der the Nathan St Bridge. Wear clothes that you don’t mind get­ting wet in and plenty of sun­screen. Hans will show pad­dle tech­niques and will sup­ply kayaks among the stun­ning scenery of the Ross River. Ves­sels are supplied but feel free to bring your own. Cost is $ 15 per per­son.
