Try hand at some bush navigation

GRAB a compass and walking shoes and join TTOC for the Mingela Northern Classic Cross country for the best orienteeri­ng map in Northern Queensland. It’s time to step out of your urban comfort zone and have a go at navigating in the bush. Just outside Townsville at the base of Mingela Range on the left- hand side there will be a gate marked Maidavale Property; remember, once going through, shut the gate and follow the signs. Start times are between 9- 11am with course closure at noon. There will be hard, moderate and easy courses, and a very easy course for juniors, so there is something for everyone. Wear long pants or gaiters and don’t forget hat, sunscreen and water. Compasses, whistles, maps, water and softies at start/ finish will be available. Cost is $ 5 per person or $ 10 family. some training in for the upcoming running festival in August and join the Townsville Roadrunner­s for the Fairfield Waters handicap. Starting from Bicentenni­al Park on Queens Rd, Saturday, the event kicks off at 6.15am. This event is based on previous race times and runners will be started according to their time allocated. the beautiful Ross River this Saturday with River- Sea Kayak. There is a morning session at 7.30am and a 4.30 afternoon session, meeting under the Nathan St Bridge. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet in and plenty of sunscreen. Hans will show paddle techniques and will supply kayaks among the stunning scenery of the Ross River. Vessels are supplied but feel free to bring your own. Cost is $ 15 per person.
