BHP set to axe 180 jobs from HQ in Melbourne

MINING giant BHP Billiton is expected to cut more than a third of its workforce at its Melbourne head office.

BHP is shedding about 180 positions at its Collins Street headquarte­rs following the completion of its South32 demerger in May, The Australian Financial Review reports.

The company is reducing head office staff by 37 per cent from a peak of 480 positions to about 300.

Comment was being sought from BHP.
