BHP set to axe 180 jobs from HQ in Mel­bourne

MIN­ING gi­ant BHP Bil­li­ton is ex­pected to cut more than a third of its work­force at its Mel­bourne head of­fice.

BHP is shed­ding about 180 po­si­tions at its Collins Street head­quar­ters fol­low­ing the com­ple­tion of its South32 de­merger in May, The Aus­tralian Fi­nan­cial Re­view re­ports.

The com­pany is re­duc­ing head of­fice staff by 37 per cent from a peak of 480 po­si­tions to about 300.

Com­ment was be­ing sought from BHP.
