Katter warns over water

-

PROBLEMS around town water supply are a major issue for Gulf residents, Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter says.

Mr Katter, who travelled through the Gulf last week with State Member for Mount Isa Robbie Katter, said Normanton needed a $ 12 million weir to secure its water supply while the $ 20 million Charleston Dam project would provide water for Georgetown and Forsayth.

He said local councils were prepared to contribute towards the projects but further funding from government was needed.

“Our towns are grossly short of water and you can’t have a town without a water supply. The situation is critical in the Gulf, Normanton, Karumba, Croydon, Forsayth and Georgetown to name a few.’’
