No biggest loser as reality titans lock horns on TV

-

IF you watch Married at First Sight you’re probably a hopelessly romantic female. And if you’re hooked on Manu and paleo Pete on Seven’s My Kitchen Rules then chances are you’re a young professional.

Meanwhile, the eyeballs of Aussie families are glued to I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!

As three major prime time reality shows fight it out for ratings across their respective networks, households are pledging their loyalty to at least one of them, with the genre having a vicelike grip on the 7.30pm timeslots.

Most people are dedicated to one show, and ratings experts say age and gender play a big role in your guilty pleasure of choice.

Media Week’s James Manning said that while Married at First Sight was pulling a young to middle- age female audience, I’m a Celebrity has a familiesbase audience, while MKR dominates across the board because it interests families, women and young couples.

Television commentator David Knox from TV Tonight said all three of the major players had done well in the ratings game this year.

“So far the big networks can all find positives in the early evening reality battle,” Mr Knox said. “My Kitchen Rules is leading the ratings race, Married at First Sight is taking the fight up to Seven in a big way, and I’m a Celebrity is enjoying good numbers given the heated competition and plenty of ‘ talkability.’ For once, there is no biggest loser here.”
