Bowen shines under lights

THEY’VE been thrown to the wolves sooner than expected but Javid Bowen is confident his left- edge combinatio­n with Gideon GelaMosby can hold as the Cowboys’ injury woes ease.

The Cowboys showed plenty of faith in the two youngsters by pairing them on the left edge together for Saturday’s 32- 26 win against the Titans.

Gold Coast gave them a searching examinatio­n in defence with hulking centre Konrad Hurrell terrorisin­g the pair as often as possible.

Aside from one poor read by Gela- Mosby ( inset), where he raced off his wing to gift the hosts a try, the pair passed their first big test.

“Everyone got a bit caught up on that try and needed to get off our line, but other than that I think we performed pretty good on that edge,” Bowen said.

“From where he ( GelaMosby) has come from to where he is now, good on him.

“The boys love being around him and I love being beside him.”

Titans coach Neil Henry revealed after the game he directed his team to “try and get at their left edge”.

The youngsters could be there for some time yet with O’Neill and winger Antonio Winterstei­n ( forearm) expected to miss at least two more games.

Lachlan Coote will return from two weeks out with a calf injury against Souths at 1300SMILES Stadium tomorrow night, which pushes Kalyn Ponga out of the 17.
