Storm weather 10- day gap between fixtures

- GILBERT GARDINER

MELBOURNE Storm coach Craig Bellamy has kept preparations for tonight’s blockbuster against New Zealand Warriors as normal as possible to combat a tricky 10- day break between games.

Storm will have at least four Anzac Day debutants, including Josh Addo- Carr, Ryley Jacks, Cheyse Blair and Christian Welch, but Bellamy is confident the group will handle the occasion.

“It’s been ages since we played so we’ve had to take that into consideration,” Bellamy said.

“We want to get them excited about it, we don’t want them to get them overexcited about it so it’s a bit of a balance.

“Just make sure they keep their eye on what they got to do for the team and hopefully we’ve done that.”

Storm had three days off at the start of the extended break to freshen up the legs before a “good session” on Saturday.

Players trained last night at Gosch’s Paddock with Bellamy to finalise his 17- man squad today.

Bellamy yesterday admitted there could come a time when he must decide between playing Ryley Jacks and five- eighth Cameron Munster.

Jacks has not missed a beat since debuting in Round 1 when Munster replaced Billy Slater at fullback. With Slater and Munster fit, Jacks could eventually be squeezed out of the 17- man squad.

“Munster’s obviously done a wonderful job for us two years before this so with all due respect he’s probably earned the right to have first go at ( five- eighth),” Bellamy said.

“He’s a real footy player and he’s a tough rooster, we think he’s going to do a real good job at that five- eighth but on the other side of the coin, Ryley has done a good job.”
