NO CAMOUFLAGING LOYALTIES OF OUR TROOPS

- NICK WALSHAW

AUSTRALIA’S bravest colour has always been camouflage. Only today, it gets a twist. As part of the annual Anzac Day clash between the Roosters and St George Illawarra, the NRL is running a series of video posts from our servicemen and women currently deployed in the Middle East.

As part of the campaign, our soldiers were asked to don the gear of their favourite teams and offer up messages of support. Tattooed Dragon Josh Dugan was among those given a shout- out.

And to ensure nobody missed out, the NRL also sent a giant care package to our troops overseas which contained jerseys, caps, scarfs and shirts.

Soldiers will also be watching today’s Allianz Stadium blockbuster via LiveStream online. So what chance a sellout? For with players from both clubs this week insisting the Anzac Day game now sits behind only an NRL grand final for atmosphere, organisers are hopeful the attendance record will be smashed.

The crowd record is 40,752, set in 2013. But with St George Illawarra shock competition leaders, and the Roosters still among the premiership favourites, it is hoped the Anzac Day crowd will pass 40,000 for only the third time.

An NRL spokesman said late yesterday that “plenty of good seats were still available”, and 46,000 fans were required for the “Full House” sign to go up.

In Melbourne, the Storm will also play their traditional Anzac Day clash against the Warriors at AAMI Park.
