Rest has Steelcats primed to do best
THE Magnetic North Steelcats say they’re feeling refreshed and ready to start their charge towards the Queensland State Netball League finals.
The Steelcats will travel to Mackay today to take on the Wide Bay Thundercats before coming up against the Capricorn Claws tomorrow morning.
Teams have enjoyed an extended break since the last round in Townsville three weeks ago and Steelcats coach Sue Warmington said it couldn’t have come at a better time for her side.
The Steelcats picked up a few niggling injuries in that arduous triple- header and Warmington said the chance to rest up had her players primed for a strong performance this weekend.
“The girls certainly needed a bit of break to recharge and get over few niggling injuries that we had after torrid three games in Townsville,” Warmington said.
“Both our shooters had injuries, but the physios have given them the all- clear so it’s really exciting to get those girls back on the court.
“It was great for them to have the week off before we got back into training and now they’re ready and raring to go.”
The Steelcats are in a strong position having lost just one game to the Claws in a 40- 39 thriller in Townsville, but Warmington said they weren’t about to take things easy heading into the finals.
“We can’t take any of these teams lightly. They’re all quality sides and any team can come through and take the win on the day as we saw in Townsville,” Warmington said.
“The Claws got us by one goal so the girls are certainly keen to put that behind us and go out and turn the tables on them.
“Every game is tough, especially with the away trips, but the girls are excited knowing that another couple of wins put us in good stead for the last two rounds.”
