Big night shapes up

- LEE PEARCE

GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds tonight with a packed 11- race program.

The feature races are three heats of the RQ Maiden 1000 over 380m and five heats of the 4/ 5th grade over 380m.

Race 1 is the RQ Maiden 1000 Heat 1 over 380m. Maywyn’s Rocker ( 5) for Jay Schafer has been knocking on the door in his last couple of starts and should crack his maiden.

Mali Moo ( 4) for Heath Ardle ran a good third at her first start. She will be improved for the run and a danger.

Steve’s Last ( 3) for Rhonda Essery also put in a good run at his first start last week and is a place chance.

First starter Arthur Stevie ( 7) for Andrew Wooler is also a chance so watch the market.

Race 2 is the RQ Maiden 1000 Heat 2 over 380m.

Belle’s Hawke ( 1) for Steve Dodd ran a good race at his only start. Drawn well he will be hard to beat.

Winnie’s Rose ( 3) for Andrew Wooler also ran a good race at her only start and was finishing strong so she looms as a big danger.

Pacific Panther ( 2) for Essery is having her first start.

Race 3 is the RQ Maiden 1000 Heat 3 over 380m with Arts ( 7) for Harold Hovi a very consistent performer who has been knocking on the door.

He gets his chance tonight to break through and will take some beating.

No Not Me ( 3) for Essery is having her first start in Townsville after a stint racing against quality opposition in Ipswich and Casino.

She is a real chance for a place this evening.

Commanche ( 1) for Tony Camilleri has drawn well and could be the upset of the race.
