More stolen guns recovered

-

ROAD workers found a number of guns on the side of the Flinders Highway, following the discovery of a stolen gunsafe found buried on a Woodstock property.

The bag, with 10 firearms in it, was found on the Flinders Highway about 20km from Townsville not far from where the safe was buried, and just a week after it was located on April 19.

Three guns still have not been found, which is thought to include two handguns and a rifle.

Townsville Property Crime officer- in- charge detective Senior- Sergeant Guy Harvey, said police had identified the weapons as coming from the Mount Louisa burglary on February 24 but they were still searching for the culprits.

If you have any information about the firearms still missing or who stole the guns, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. BMD Constructions has been awarded the construction contract to duplicate a 3km section of Riverway Drive, between Gollogly and Allambie lanes.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said construction – supporting 82 jobs – would start this month.

“The Palaszczuk Government is delivering on its promise to upgrade this vital transport link, which connects the Upper Ross with employment, education and service hubs across the city,” Mr Bailey said. He also announced an additional $ 5 million had been committed to the project, taking its value to $ 35 million.

Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper said the additional funding allowed an extended project scope.

“New pedestrian boardwalks will be built along some sections of the riverbank, improving facilities and ensuring roadside parking will remain for events in the area,” he said.
