Projects key for LNP
VALUE- FOR- MONEY a nd delivering much- needed infrastructure projects will be critical benchmarks in an overhaul of the State Government’s Market- Led Proposals framework, according to the LNP.
LNP leader Tim Nicholls will address a Townsville Bulletin Business Breakfast on the topic at the Ville Resort- Casino tomorrow.
Mr Nicholls said Labor’s MLP framework had a success rate of less than 1 per cent and change was clearly needed.
“We are going to change the culture so that projects are ap- proved instead of becoming stalled,” Mr Nicholls said.
“All of our actions are focused on getting more innovative projects approved and delivered, meaning more jobs and better infrastructure.
“It is not good enough that after nearly two years only one project has progressed to the delivery stage when more than 100 proposals have been presented to the Government.”
Mr Nicholls said the LNP would replace Labor’s policy with the most aggressive MLP framework in Australia to turbocharge the state’s economy.
“Townsville- based projects that would benefit from the LNP’s streamlined MLP framework could include energy or water supply solutions,” he said. “We will commit to a four- month as- sessment period giving proponents confidence that their proposals will be dealt with quickly and effectively.
“This will build confidence in the MLP process.
“Our changes will mean information about the type and number of projects received by the Government is made public, not hidden from scrutiny.
“We will give proponents more information about the types of projects the Government is interested in partnering and we will also reform the assessment framework to ensure that more projects are able to proceed.
“Value for money and abil- ity to deliver will be major aspects of the new rules.”
Mr Nicholls said North Queensland was suffering an infrastructure deficit.
“We need to be encouraging the private sector to step up,” Mr Nicholls said. “The LNP will focus on six key economic drivers: tourism, agriculture, resources, construction and manufacturing, education and services, science and technology. Queensland is crying out for more infrastructure.”
