FNQ rider Max Emeny had just set a lap a lap record in the 250cc production category, posting a sizzling time of 40.645 seconds, but Mountney became the new record holder just a lap later with 40.321 sec.
Emeny won overall, but Mountney’s record lap suggests the three- race series is far from over.
Mountney was part of a 55man field that took part in Saturday’s meet at Bohle’s Suncity Raceway, which was dominated by Road Racing of Townsville ( RRAT).
The home club took out eight of 10 divisions ahead of round two at Proserpine.
“The 250cc race was an absolute thriller and that came as no surprise,” RRAT secretary Drew Pemberton said.
“The junior road race was another highlight and the riders from FNQ and Whitsunday Motorsport gave our guys plenty of good competition.”
The NQ Road Racing Championships have reverted back to a three- race series after holding a stand alone meet in recent years.
