Join the campaign to solve the intolerable water problem

- OPINION

AS the Ross River Dam level continues to drop and the pumps are about to be turned on again for our primary supply, Townsville faces a grim water shortage for many months.

Businesses and families are suffering. Our city will return to the unenviable title of “Brownsville” despite the State Government’s “plan” – Google Queensland Green Strategy 2011- 2020.

The combined levels of governments for the last 30- plus years have chosen to ignore our dire infrastructure problem, until now, by not prioritising water security in strategic plans and budgets.

The projected needs were known in official reports in 1987. An ample water supply nearby is not the cause of the problem. Blame- shift to the Spaces community is not justified. We do not need another dam at this stage. Water For Townsville Action Group ( now 11,000 on Facebook alone) is sending a relentless message to those in control of the necessary funding. This longstanding and ongoing situation is intolerable. Please join us and be part of the solution.

Read our report to the City Deal Water Taskforce and our six recommendations and well- researched infrastructure preferences, in “files”. Add Facebook friends, share via your Facebook pages and groups and email contacts, call our hotline for more information, tell neighbours, contribute to our GoFundMe and ensure our kids and grandkids aren’t fighting this same battle for the city’s most critical resource for the next 30 years.

The solution put forward by the Townsville City Deal Water Taskforce must be the best option, not another costcutting, short- term one ( and free from all partisan agendas).

If the Federal Budget tonight does not commit to funding the anticipated $ 500 million ( with state contribution), call or message your local members.

Together we can do this.
