Victim’s silence stymies police
THREE people involved in a “targeted attack” on a man in Kirwan are unlikely to face charges as the victim is refusing to make a complaint to police.
The 33- year- old was at a Meyer Court address at 1am yesterday when two men and a woman turned up and the victim was attacked at his front door. He was hit over the head with a piece of timber by one of the men before a second man, armed with what was believed to be a knife, slashed the resident’s torso three times.
The victim then retreated inside his home and closed the main door.
The offenders unsuccessfully tried to gain entry to the house before fleeing in a vehicle.
The victim called police and was transported to Townsville Hospital with minor injuries.
Townsville CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Hicks said police could not confirm if the man was expecting the trio or if they had turned up unannounced.
“He has answered his door, possibly from a knock or hearing the three offenders on his front patio,” he said.
“Once he’s come out to the door he has been assaulted with a piece of wood to the head area and also received some scratches to his chest, possibly from a cutting instru- ment, but they weren’t serious at all.”
Sen- Sgt Chris Hicks said there was no immediate cause for alarm in the community as it wasn’t a random attack.
Sen- Sgt Hicks said police believed the attack was in relation to a debt of some sort, possibly drug- related.
“These offenders are known to the victim,” he said.
“It was a targeted incident by these three offenders towards this victim.
“There is no concern ( for the community) that police have. It is specifically targeted towards this victim and the matter has been dealt with and investigated by police.”
Sen- Sgt Chris Hicks confirmed the victim had been discharged from hospital and that detectives had spoken with him, but he has indicated he doesn’t want to make a complaint.
