OTTO’S TO SCALE UP MENU

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON

TONYT RAGGATT 4722 4439 CHRISTIECHR ANDERSON 4722 4741 FOOD outlet Otto’s made famous in Townsville for their pies, pretzels, coffee, pastries and meat are branching out into seafood.

Otto’s Fish Market will open midyear in Warrina Arcade taking up 200sq m of space next to Otto’s Fresh Food Market.

Owner Brian Shiells said the store wouldn’t be your ordinary fish and chip shop with two large tanks filled with live seafood dominating the shopfront.

“It will be set up with large tanks and we’ll also have holding tanks out the back,” he said.

“We’ll have a combination of seafood to cooked fish and chips.

“Customers will be able to get seafood straight from the tank.

“It will be relaxed and casual with crabs on the table and we’ll be handing out bibs so it could get a bit messy.

“Otto’s has a proven name and a good customer following and I think the fish market will complement the food market really well.”

The live tanks will stock a huge range live of seafood including coral trout, barramundi, parrotfish, crayfish, mussels, scallops and mud crab.

Diners will be able to choose their seafood and either take it home fresh or have it cooked to eat in store or at home.

Customers will be able to use existing seating in the arcade while there will also be extra seating created in store.

North Queensland seafood will mainly be used for live tanks to reduce the logistical issues in transporting live seafood but some of the crayfish and other crustaceans will come from Victoria.

A chef will be brought in to cook the seafood and a variety of Asian- inspired dishes will also be served.

Con Polouras who owned the Warrina Fish Bar for more than 40 years will run the fish market.

Changes are also happening at Otto’s Fresh Food Market with a new deli counter selling smoked and cured meats, cheeses and olives.

The meat market inside Otto’s is also up and running with prime cuts available.
